The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation is a major Atlantic ocean current system that moves warm water north and cold water south. It helps regulate climate, especially keeping Europe warmer. Today, the AMOC is slowing down as a result of rapid temperature increase in the Arctic region and Greenland’s accelerated ice melt into the North Atlantic.
